Outsider Art

Network with other outsider artists and collectors

Let's start with a confession....
I have a bit of an obsession when it comes to linking and connecting online spaces. I know linking is nothing new, but i suppose i bring a sort of metaphysical line of thinking to this benign activity. To my mind and heart it is a way of linking concepts and expanding their space to garner more attention with this emphasis.....

I think i'll share a few things that have captured my interest or attention. The themes may not be overt, but all relate to ideas and issues that inspired Cultural Fusion or provide insights to guide it.

There's a cool TED Talks video i want to share this time around and my hope is that as more of you join you will give me feedback with regard to what you are interested in. I"ll confess that this post is a revision of one from another of my blogs, but I share it again here because it is that important.

Furthermore, it demonstrates the value of this undertaking in terms of what Cultural Fusion has to offer in terms of addressing real world problems. In all my undertakings I feel that my perspective as an artist brings a missing dimension to most issues. With this series I am discovering more about contrast vs competition in terms of defining value in the marketplace. Recently I have looked back to my early writings and decided to share some of them as reference material to help others understand the empirical foundation for my concepts that set me on the path of discovering Cultural Fusion. (I'll share that with you in an upcoming post.)

From a more "here now" perspective the following is a perfect example....What does it mean that no one else is talking about or seems to have considered what financial "down turns" actually involve in the context of the human drama we call life? Is there anyone that thinks loss of your home is a minor issue? On the contrary it is the sort of issue that turns one's life upside down and in many cases leads to other problems (depression, increase in abuse, etc). Yes, these are the sorts of complex issues that Cultural Fusion is being developed to help address based on established research findings that go beyond seeing people as subjects but instead embraces them as part of our human family.

Yes, I think you're correct. I did some work around the metro Atlanta area working with and learning from women with children who were transitioning from homelessness.

One of the biggest lessons that i learned emerged from patterns i noticed over more than a decade of learning from women.....because women generally define themselves by their relationships, there was usually a relationship gone wrong involved in how they ended up on the streets. I remember one woman specifically who had a boyfriend that robbed her. Since she was just making it, that was enough to put her and her two children on the streets. Funny thing was, her neighbors/friends watched him do this and no one called the police. Well, it turned out this was his M.O. and she was deeply resentful that no one warned her (several of her friends were aware of this past pattern).

Here recovery was about more than just getting a place to live, i find it is the emotional issues that few programs address sufficiently....support groups and talk therapy can be good but doesn't typically go to the heart of healing.
That is where art comes in :-)

Interesting, yvette. I worked with homeless children near a big city. I also did research on the effects of young children in schools several years ago. I imagine it is far worse now. I have, myself, at one time, been close to the street as a single mom, due to unforseen situations, and always say people have no idea..
